The Education Taskforce is charged with addressing issues facing African-American males in the area of education. Members of this group, with assistance from the Key Stakeholder, the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), will develop recommendations for actions to combat the problems that African-American males face with education. The information will then be disseminated to appropriate agencies in the community.
Members of the Taskforce Group have identified the following issues as the most pressing:
1. All students will read by 3rd grade.
2. All students will succeed in school as measured by academics, behavior, and attendance.
3. All students will graduate with academic and critical thinking skills to value and appreciate learning.
4. All students will graduate with cultural and social literacy, leading to community responsibility.
5. All students will graduate with employment skills, career awareness, and a positive work ethic.
