The Twenty-first Century Scholars Program began in 1990 as Indiana's way of raising the educational aspirations of low and moderate-income families. The program aims to ensure that all Indiana families can afford a college education for their children.

The Newhouse Newspaper Graduate Fellowship Program, founded in 1993, offers minority students an opportunity to begin a career in communications -- as long as they ARE NOT journalism majors.
The idea is to not only increase the number of minorities, but also to attract people from different disciplines and backgrounds. The Fellowship attracts extraordinarily high quality applicants. Six finalists are selected to come to Syracuse University for interviews.
The top two are awarded:
